My Mont Blanc Expedition – Summer 2024

Mountaineering has gradually become a part of my life. With every summit - no matter how high, hard or simple - I’ve grown not just in skill, but in appreciation for the journey itself. The deeper I ventured into the world of mountains, the more I became hooked. Because, mountaineering isn’t only about reaching the summit. It’s about the challenge, the solitude, the preparation, and the moments in between.

In 2023, I set myself on a bigger challenge: Mont Blanc, the highest peak in western Europe. Standing at 4,810 meters (15,781 ft), Mont Blanc kingly rises above the Alps on the border of Italy and France. It is a legendary mountain - rich in mountaineering history, natural beauty, and alpine drama. Known as the “Roof of Europe,” Mont Blanc has long been a goal for climbers from around the world. It’s not only a physical challenge to reach its summit but also a test of endurance, planning, and respect for nature's unpredictability.

Preparation and First Attempt

Throughout 2023 and into early 2024, I focused on the preparation. From physical training to route research and gear planning, every detail mattered. My first attempt came in May 2024. However, I quickly realised I was too early in the season. Harsh conditions and deep snow made it impossible to reach the summit on foot. It was a reminder that the mountain always has the final word.

Second Attempt – August 2024

I returned in early August 2024, determined and more prepared. Just like previous attempt, I went solo - a decision that made the experience more personal and intense. The journey was physically and mentally demanding. I spent three days acclimatising in Alps before heading toward the Mt Blanc.

My plan was to complete the climb over three days. But at around 4,000 meters of altitude, I was caught in unexpected bad weather and had to shelter for an extra night. It was one of those moments where the mountain tested not just endurance, but patience and judgment.

On the 2nd of August I got lucky with the weather and just after dawn, I stood on the summit of Mont Blanc - alone, in silence, with all of Europe beneath my feet.

The views were breathtaking, the experience unforgettable. But more than the summit itself, it was the entire journey that left its mark. Being alone with just my thoughts, through the cold, the uncertainty, and the effort - made it an experience I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.

Climbing Mont Blanc is more than just ticking off a peak. It’s a milestone for many mountaineers. It demands respect, skill, and mindset. My expedition changed how I look at risk, reward, and what truly matters in the mountains.

In the end, it’s never just about standing at the top. It’s about every step that got you there.
